Why you should replace your air filter this winter

December 13, 2016

We encourage preventative maintenance on your heating and air conditioning equipment frequently, but this doesn’t just mean yearly tune-ups – it also refers to assessing your air filters. It’s a quick way to help keep your system running smoothly and improve your indoor air quality, and you can easily do it by yourself! This is the best time to inspect your filter, as the cooler weather comes to a close and heat is approaching. There are several benefits to switching out your air filter for a replacement, such as:

Increasing the life and efficiency of your system
A definite way to trigger a system failure is a dirty air filter. Excess dirt that accumulates on your filter can influence your whole system to run harder than it should to keep your home cool. Not only will it impact the performance of your system, but it can impact your utility bills and cause your system to overheat.

Improving indoor air quality
The reason for an air filter is that it grabs contaminants through your air system before it flows into your home. After the filter has been in for a while, the less effective it is in grabbing things like dust and mold that can affect the health and comfort of your home, especially if someone in your family suffers from allergies or asthma. With warmer temps around the corner, pollen and mold are especially prone to be hanging around and you certainly don’t like the idea of it circulating in your house. A quality, clean air filter will help you breathe easy and remain healthy during allergy season.

Inspect your system or chat with your local HVAC expert for guidance on how regularly you should be changing your filter. For most filters through AZ Air Conditioning and Heating, we recommend an annual change with the highest MERV filter you have access to. Not sure if it’s the best time to replace your air filter?
